While I was on staff as Singles Minister At Nall Ave. Baptist Church, we would travel down to the Kansas City Rescue Mission with a group of single adults and some of their children. We would help prepare and serve food to the homeless and “street people” which oftentimes gave us an opportunity to share with them … and sometimes an opportunity to pray with them also…It was a great experience for us all . . . it was humbling to realize how much need there was, how much we could actually help … A reality check as we recognized the abundance in our own lives and the fact that “needs,” levels the “playing ground” for most people.
One particular evening on our way back from serving meals, one of the children asked their dad, who happened to be riding with us… “Daddy, what did all those people do that they have to be there. What happened to them that they’re there now?
The dad sat there for a little bit and gave probably one of the simplest and wisest responses to that question something that I had heard. He said to his daughter; “choices, they just made bad choices in their lives.”
Our lives are made up of a series of choices — it’s not always easy and we’re certainly not all batting 1000 in that category.
It is easy to get confused, to get off track … that sometimes it’s hard for us to believe that God really wants to be very clear and specific about what He has for us. About the direction He has for our lives. Is there really a way to know for sure where this “sometimes seemingly elusive” path is … can we avoid some of the confusion and decision-making obstacles and pitfalls that we run into?
There is… And that’s what we’re going to talk about this Sunday . . . Decision-making and the God’s will and direction for us!
