The season is literally upon us… But you all know that don’t you! Preparation for Christmas began many months ago immediately after the January consumer shows. Plans have been laid, worked hard, refigured and worked again. Buying for the last quarter of the year by retailers, has been going on since then. Merchandise starts arriving in warehouses in September, promotions begin in early October as news “leaks” about Black Friday specials begin to emerge.
The sales begin tomorrow on Thanksgiving day… And will continue it break neck speed through December 24th to be followed only by greater “clearance sales” the following two or three weeks.
There will be scrambling for product… Altercations will occur… People will be hurt, trampled and arrested for fighting. The suicide rate will soar… More people will be abused and hurt than any other time of year.
“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:14 (NKJV)
SO!… What happened! The answer is painfully obvious; our focus is now on ourselves (increasingly so) instead of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We seem to have become our main priority, therefore there’s little time left for “others and peace” unless it’s convenient to us. Sad!
The next four weeks we will be looking at Jesus Christ, how he came and why he came. Our focus needs to be on Him, and recognizing that we set aside a time of year when we can draw close to Him as individuals, as families, as a nation and the whole world… To Glorify Him… and very basically and honestly; because we desperately need it.
