For the past few years we have been providing food, clothing, tarps, blankets, welcoming hearts and prayer to those in need. In Matthew 25 beginning in verse 31, Jesus tells us about a time when the King will separate people. In verse 35 he says “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” When questioned about when we did such things he replied finally in verse 40 “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
The point of this passage is to help us to know what it is to serve our fellow man. We provide whatever our neighbors need out of the wonderful riches that the Lord has provided. This is just what we do. We donate, we organize, we transport and we distribute what God has blessed us with.
The things we have we have only because God has chosen to bless us with them. We have a job to earn money to buy things because God has blessed us. There are times that God knows it is in our best interest to go without. I don’t claim to understand this. All I know is that when I was hungry people gave me food.
It means the world to most of us to be greeted with a smile and a welcoming attitude. We have the opportunity to do this right here in our own back yard. I hope you can join us next time we the opportunity to serve others.
